How do you change the DS yoke???

I need to swap my stock DS yoke with a C6 for a tko 600. There aren't and outside snap rings or anything I can see that would release it, so how do you do it? I tried searches but found nothing....

Thanks

Re: How do you change the DS yoke???

You searched and couldn't find how to remove the u-joints? Damn man, search is hurtin' these days or you're just not so hot at it

You heat it up with a torch. The pink plastic will "snake" out of the holes and "pop", then it'll STINK. As soon as you hear the pop, then you're done. Then just use a socket and hammer the u-joints out.
Once you replace it with new u-joints, you'll have inside snap rings to hold it in place.

Yea, idk what was the deal... I typed in all kinda stuff and never found anything.

Ok, so I should get a new u joint and use the inside snap rings? Why isnt there some kind of snap rings to take the old one off?

Thanks for the info tho.

Re: How do you change the DS yoke???

GM factory choice. They injected liquid... plastic, I forget what kind, to keep it in place. You can't have that "fall out". So it reduced warranty claims i'm guessing. All aftermarket u-joints are internal or external clips (external typically on aluminum shafts).

You'll need a conversion u-joint for what you're doing. Just call up a driveline place and tell them what you're doing and what you need. They're roughly the same price, but one set of ears are for the 3R (GM driveshaft) and the other is for the C6 as you say.

Re: How do you change the DS yoke???

just took it apart, went pretty easy... ok I will do that, thanks for the help sonix... hey I noticed you have ported 416's... I'm running the same heads on a 383 with a mild cam and only made 210whp, do you have any idea what you are making for hp?

Re: How do you change the DS yoke???

No idea what i'm making now. I sure as hell hope it's better than 210RWHP though...
I want to dyno it later in the summer. I have a few things to take care of first;
- fix driveline vibration
- paint hood
- seal air cleaner to hood
- install wideband O2 sensor
then I can bring it in to the dyno.
I'll post up, and put it in my signature when I eventually do dyno it.

Keep in mind I have a very aggressive cam, and lots of other addons.

Re: How do you change the DS yoke???

yea, it pisses me off cuz i feel like I should be making more power than that, im running the voodoo 60102lk thats a little more mild than yours with stock rockers, performer eps intake, edel 650 carb, hooker shorty's through single in dual out flowmaster and the eagle 383 rotating assembly.

I gotta fix my exhaust tho cuz its caved in prolly half way in one spot due to bottoming out... do you think that will rob a lot of hp??

Not really on the topic of the thread anymore - but yes, if you've got single exhaust and a kink in it, you'll feel the lack of HP.
An EPS on a 383 is a mild combo. Your combo sounds very mild, so 260RWHP is about as high as i'd expect with your parts list.

I read an article this morning, about a 1st gen that seemed way down on power, & nothing they did could find the problem.

Out of frustration (and the desire for a header back/new mufflers, Flowmasters, system anyways).....When they cut off the factory exhaust, they found a double walled section, where the inner wall had fell inwards. The outer wall was perfectly fine. Dyno before & after found it, just the crumpled exhaust, to be a 120 HORSEPOWER restriction!

Nice to put a header back system on, and gain 120 hp from it!
