t5 swap

Ok I have a t5 from a 84 thirdgen I am putting into my 91 gta 5.7
question is which flywheel should I get? I have three to choose from.

a matching 84 camaro.. 168tooth
or a 91 gta, both are 153 tooth and a tbi model is different from a tpi. is the balance different on the flywheels from a 305 and 350? a stock flexplate on this car is a 168 tooth, so if i get a 153 tooth flywheel I need to move my starter in? I forget, can you move stock starters closer in?

Re: t5 swap

From my understanding the t5 bell housing cannot fit a 168 tooth flywheel.

When you order it tell them what car you have, assuming u have the original engine, because your 91 GTA has a 1 piece rear main seal where an 84 would have a two piece which is a completely different flywheel. The balancing is no different from a 305 to a 350.

Re: t5 swap

ok thanks jeff, i thought about the rear main difference but pictures didnt clearly show a differenc, ill take your word.
an 84 stock flywheel had a 168 tooth listed as stock. strange? ill stick with a 153tooth, I work in an auto parts store so I have behind the counter access.

oh ya, since im going to a smaller flywheel, do I need a new starter or are they remountable closer to the new flywheel?

Re: t5 swap

I do not know if you can "move" the starter. You could try posting in what ever section five7kid is a mod of because he answered all my questions when I was doing the swap.
