Rear End Help

I have a 90 Camaro RS w/ the TBI and the 2.73 gears. I wanna upgrade to 3.42 or 3.73 and also add posi. Someone offered to sell me the used ring and pinion gears out of their 95 Z28 (3.42). This is a 7.5" ring gear. My question is, can I use this? (basically, does my rearend take a 7.5" ring gear?) Plus, is that all that I would need to upgrade to the 3.42 rear end? What's a good price for just the gears? and also, what's a good posi unit, where do i get it, and what's a good price? Thanks

A brand new set of gears is about $200, so let that be your guide to what a used set is worth.

Cheapest/best way to come up with a posi for your situation would be the SLP takeoff for $99 bucks, or maybe even $79 if they're still swimming in them.

2.73 uses a "2-series" carrier (so does 3.08)
3.42 uses a "3-series" carrier

A 3.42 ring gear will not work on a 2.73 carrier.

Yes, 7.5 or 7.625 inch will work.

Gears can be found for $150 + shipping.

Since you need a carrier, do like RB83L69
says, and get a Zexel Torsen from SLP for $100. They are VERY GOOD limited slip differentials.

If you are going to do heavy dragging with slicks, then get their heavy duty version:

Finally, expect to pay someone to swap your gears and carrier. It isn't a do-it-yourself job and it can cost big bucks.
