700r4 shift cable

Shift cable broke,no biggie.Got it home and bought a cable install goes well until I try to get the cable to clip in the bracket under the radio in the console.Cant seem to get the plastic ears/tabs or whatever to pull through the bracket enough to clip it into place. When I shift towards park it just comes out.I cant seem to pull hard enough.I`ve tried to trim a hair off the plastic ears/tabs with a razor but didnt seem to help.Anyone had trouble with this before.Need to get it on the road.

Re: 700r4 shift cable

my shifter from my '91 now has a clip on the rear side, and it goes into slots made with a hacksaw. It's a great fix for being free and taking all of 30 seconds.

Re: 700r4 shift cable

Been messing with this thing for a few days.I guess the bracket on the side of the trans pan is damaged somehow. There was a piece of wire and a hose clamp wrapped around it.Guees I`ll have to rig something up my self.Hopefully not as ghetto as the last guy.It had been that way since I bought the car,but I`m really kinda pissed the guy who rebuilkt the trans left it that way.

Re: 700r4 shift cable

I've seen some pretty poor casting quality on aftermarket shifter cables that need some trimming on the ears to get them to fit through the holes, and then keep wanting to pop back out afterwards. I usually put a cable tie underneath the ears to keep them held out securely.

Re: 700r4 shift cable

What a POS.The shifter cable is now screwed.I gotta go get a new cable and I guess the bracket from the bone yard. This sucksI got no wheels.2nd gears slipping in my truck and what should have been an easy job on my car while my trucks in the shop is now turned into a major PITA.I believe its mostly due to the rig job done on the brackett before.
