Some of your question can be answered in the following FAQ:

http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/tr...-10-bolts.html (FAQ About 10-Bolts)

The 9-bolt is the strongest OE that you can find, but parts are somewhat difficult to locate. Best bang for the buck is a fourthgen rear.

FYI: All caps is considered yelling--and the text is difficult to read for an old fart like me

Re: REAREND HELP FOR 92 RS WITH CARBED 5.7

Welcome! I happen to be a new member myself, and am in the same rear end situation you are. A ford rear would be the strongest, which is what I bought. However if it isn't already ready to drop in your car already it'll require a donor rear and fabrication skills. I'd say do the craigslist/ebay thing for a 4th gen rear or decent third gen rear. Then put whatever gears you want in it. It really comes down to your level of fab skill and budget. But don't be intimated by doing work yourself. There's awesome how-to's on the internet, and the guys here seem very knoweldgable. Good luck man!
