3000 RPM STALL

I just built a 406..mods in sig... I've never had much of a stall on my old setups...This one has a 3000 RPM stall with lockup....I'm not sure if I dont have the car dialed in right yet or if its the stall....I havent leaned into the car yet because i want to get a dyno tune first but have driven around the block a few times... The car feels week below 3000 RPMs when i'm driving it... Then seems to wake up after 3000 RPMs... Is this feeling because im not hammering the gas and its just slipping alittle bit do to the stall???

Re: 3000 RPM STALL

Rated stall speed is only an estimate. The true stall speed can only be known by using a transbrake. Doing a flash stall test will only get you an estimated stall speed.

How much a converter stalls depends on how much torque is put into it. A converter that stalls at 3000 behind one engine may only stall at 2600 behind another.

Driving around below the converter's stall speed, means the converter has to slip. All this slipping creates a lot of heat in the tranny oil. Heat kills transmissions.

Stall speed needs to be matched to the camshaft. What's the total duration (advertised) of the camshaft in your engine?

Re: 3000 RPM STALL

I see in your sig that you use an XE284 camshaft. I'm assuming it's a 12-250-3. A converter around 3000 stall speed should be just about perfect for that camshaft.

Re: 3000 RPM STALL

I had 3600 and with it not locked up the car does feel sluggish running around the block at lower rpms. Rpms go up quicker than speed with such higher stall speeds so the car feels like its not moving as quick as it should with the throttle input i give it until the converter starts to reach its stall speed and doesnt slip as much
