confused and about to kill 700r4

i bought a 700r4 that came out of a truck because my original went bad in my 91 camaro 305tbi. i pulled the tranny and began putting the other one in when i realized the tailshafts were different. i took the old tailshaft out of the original tranny and found that it had a red speedo gear init. i removed the rear shaft of the new tranny to find that it had a black magnet type of contraption what should i do now im stuck tired andgot tranny fluid everywhere i love my car but about to shoot it. the new tranny came out of a 90-92 truck i was told. my original tranny would not shift out of 2nd anymore any ideas would b greatly appreciated.

Not sure man, wish I could help. You could always get an rpg, that would probably do the job

Can you swap your speedo gear onto the output shaft of the truck trans? What you are seeing is a reluctor wheel for a VSS speedo sender on the truck. You should be able to just swap your gear onto the shaft. Then bolt on your Camaro tailshaft housing and rock and roll.

your spedo gear should go to a box that then sends an electric signal to the speedo on your dash.
and if you did it right you will have trans fluid all over the place, except you should have raised the drivers side of the car which will limit the amount you lose.
a truck trans is geared differently than a auto trans, but you can change the gears for the spedo to make it read correctly.
does the truck trans have the same length as the car? if not you will need a new drive shaft.
go slow - dont get frustrated and spend time reading this board and difference in truck and auto trans.
you are not the first person with this problem - just find what happened last time.
and when you get an answer be sure to post it.
good luck
tony
