Anybody know for sure if a 93-02 Camaro/Firebird drive shaft will fit in a 82-92 Camaro/firebird--looking to swap an aluminum shaft in place of the steel one---fed387

All Factory stock 3rd & 4th Gen Camaro/Firebird Dr Shafts (aluminum & steel for both Auto/Manual) are the same length. Does that amswer your question?? If not , do a search.
There are different length drive shafts in the 3rd gens. And the 4th gen driveshafts can be a one piece or a two piece unit.
Then dependent upon the year of the 3rd gen the rear U-joint will vary.

Different lenghts on STOCK V8 dr shafts, Now I heard everything.
Why go off on a tangent, he did NOT mention anything about the 2-pc V-6 dr shafts. Also, I never heard any onyone have a problem with the u-joints on the 10 or 9-bolts. I sure as hell did not, when I used 1LE shaft on my 9-bolt

At one time I sold 60+ JG1's. The pre-88 cars, at least some of them, which includes my 85, required another U to properly fit. I advised CarQuest 3-3130 as the replacement.
82-83 cars with a TH350 short tail did have a different length.

OK...I have a question to ad to this thread. I have a 91 Z28 5-speed, 10 bolt. Which 4 gen shaft do I need....The LS1 shaft or the V6 shaft. Thanks in advance!

If it is not a cloned Z28, you have a V8 and can use the 3rd/4th gen ILE 2 3/4dia or the 4th gen LS1 3" dia Aluminum Dr Shafts. Forget about the 2 pc shafts used on V6 cars.

OK..Thats exactly what I was looking for. The local salvage yard has the 2-piece V6 shaft and wanted to make sure befor I bought it.
On the LS1 shafts....Does it matter if its auto or 6-speed?
What is this standard or typical length? Mainly interested in shafts used behind a 700r4 or the T-5 or a 4th gen with a T56. If someone has the info or one happens to be laying around, or the car is already on a lift or you're going to be under there anyways. I assume the best way to measure would be between u-joint 'ear' centerlines.

The thirdgen shaft is 41 1/2 from center of the U to center of the U, for both the auto and manual. Since the fourthgen shaft is interchangeable with the third, length wouldn't be an issue.

That number rings a bell. Thanks. About 10-12 years ago I swapped a T56 from a 95 Camaro into my 88 using the standard T56 bell and it fit the same. or very close to it, as with the 700....so I concur.
i have a question i have an 89 iroc with a th350 and im told a 10 bolt out of a 92 what drive shaft do i need
Welcome to TGO. The TH350 had two tail shafts, a short and a long. IIRC, the long will accept the shaft I mention above. If short, you need the longer driveshaft from an 82-83 third gen which was equipped with the 200c 3 speed tranny.

Hope this helps. I have a 350 with a th-350 with the short tail shaft and my 41 1/4" driveshaft wouldn't work, so a guy that does this for a living, made one for me 45" long, which fits perfectly. I was told to measure with 3/4"-1" of the yoke extended from the seal in the housing.
i have that same prob I removed my v6 with the 4 speed and installed the 350 with th350 short shaft and my driveline is too short at least 2 inches so your saying if i have mine lengthened to 45 inches it will fit?
I am saying mine fits perfectly. To be sure for your car, insert the yoke to within 3/4" fully inserted and measure from the center of the yoke u-joint to the center of the rear u-joint and that his how long of a driveshaft you need.
Install slip yoke into transmission all the way. Pull back out 1". Measure from center of slip yoke u-joint to center of diff u-joint. That's your driveshaft measurement.
