lock up converter

I was just wondering if anyone knows where to check wiring for the lockup.... I have an 85 z28 that I have dropped a new 350 in with the stock 700r4 transmission.... I got rid of all the wiring and all of the emission control garbage.... I am shifting just fine and it goes 1-2-3-4 but I dont notice a lock up anywhere.... shouldnt I feal another shift from the tc locking up?

Re: lock up converter

you should feel the converter lock up. wont be like a shift but it will be noticable. the wiring is a 4 square weather pack connector that plugs into the driver side of the trans. it goes into the wireing in the engine bay... without that wiring its not gona lock up... u might be able to get a lock up kit from painless wiring or something. give TCI a call or something.

I have the wiring on the transmission that you speak of and it is all still connected.... when I had the 4L60 in my half ton chevy it would go into 4th then it was almost like another shift and you could see it drop the rpm when it locked up.... In this car it just shifts like it is just a 4 speed and the rpm never drops to indicate that it is locking up... I spoke with another freind and he said that not all of them have lockup that it may just be that 4th is the overdrive.... Is it possible that I dont have a lock up?

What do you mean by "all of the emission control garbage"? I hope you don't mean the computer, because that's what tells the TC to lock up.

Re: lock up converter

an easy way to tell is to drop the pan and see if the car has a wire bundle that goes from the 4weather pack connector(from the outside to the inside, ull see it) and runs ontop of the valve body. it should go to a "lockup selenoid" looks like a magnito coil that the wires connect to and is held in with 2bolts. the wires should also connect to a pressure switch on the side of the valve body. thats the lock up selendoid for a lockup converter. (u should pull that seleniod and test it with 12v while blowing or sucking the Oring side and if its working u will here it click and lock up while holding the 12v to the correct wire terminal.

if theres no wiring then its not gona lock up. they could have alos put in a nonlockup converter but left everything the same. you do need the ECM for lockup btw
