Re: help with gear ratio

you can always jack up the back of the car, put the tranny in neutral and count the amount of turns of the drive shaft it takes to turn the rear wheel ones.

but most people dont like that method

you could pull the diff cover and count the teeth on the ring and pinion gears and do the math, or sometimes its stamped into the ring gear. It never hurts to change your rear dif oil, alot of people overlook it during maint. Don't forget posi additive if required.

Re: help with gear ratio

The following FAQ should provide some insight:

http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/tr...-10-bolts.html (FAQ About 10-Bolts)

IIRC, 84 was the only year for the L69 and autos. The manuals got 3.73's, but it "seems" to me that the autos got 3.42's.

Re: help with gear ratio

My 84 Trans Am had 3.73 with the 700R4. Many of the 84 f-bodies equipped with the L69 was usually matched to 3.73 regardless of which transmission. However that doesn't mean someone didn't change it or order the car with something different.
