tranny leak and fluid change.

Ok so my tranny leaks pretty bad, i think its out of the speedo gear seal. Is that hard to replace? Should i just throw on some RTV and call it done?

Also i would like to change from Gear oil to auto tranny fluid but dont know how to flush out all of the old gear oil.

Thanks, Chas

Replacing the sleeves with its new seals might be a better choice:

Fill and drain plugs are on the pass side of the trans. BTW, if the leak has persisted for a while, you may find the fluid level 'very' low.

Re: tranny leak and fluid change.

well today i decided to just throw some fluid in it just to get it by until i have more time. Well i put in 80-90 gear oil and i can barely down shift. it will go up through the gears pretty good but i cant get it in gear. the master cylinder was just replaced and all lines were bled (including clutch.) If i sit at a stop sign and try to put it in gear it feels like im gonna break the shifter off. If i double clutch i can get it to down shift easier but is still hard. Its mostly 2nd and 3rd.

Should i just drain it and run lighter oil or ATF (automatic transmission fluid)? I wanted to drive the car this weekend but no digs if its shifting this hard.

thanks, chas
