Mini-Spool For drag weekend

Got a question. I have read on hear a lot about how not to use the mini spool for a 26 spline 7.5 inch 10 bolt. But my question is do you think it will hold up for just one weekend? I have a 383 stroker with about 450hp. 700r4 trans, and 373 gears. Car only weighs about 3050 pounds with me in it. Im going to be running M/T street ET's 275/60 R15. I have draged this car before but it only ran low 13's. Do you think if i put the spool in there it will break the rearend? Or do you think i should just stick with the spider gears that are in their. I dont have the 500 bucks for the posi. And for that money i would just get a new axle. Again this is only for this weekend, will not be driven on the street. And it will be footbreak takeoff. Any encouragement, or discouragement would be appriciated.

It might hold up for one weekend, but you never know when one of these 7.5 rear ends will break. You are putting a lot of pressure on it.

Re: Mini-Spool For drag weekend

Not to be a douche, but if your running low 13's in a 3,000 lb car, you don't have 450 hp, in fact you probably have significantly less then that.

I run low twelves, my car weighs probably around 3,400 at least with me in it and I dynoed at 340 RWHP. So I have somewhere around 400 - 450 HP.

I have a 4.6k stall and a TH350.

Also, if your interested, I may be selling my complete rearend with new gears, posi and axles for maybe $500.

Re: Mini-Spool For drag weekend

I failed to mention that I put new heads, and a bigger intake on it, so it should run faster than low 13's. What rearend are you selling, gears? What posi? What spline axles? Disc brakes or drums? O yeah and thanks for chiming in about my original question! If you read my original post you would have seen that I dont want to spend 500 on junk rearend parts that might hold up. Im going to fork over the 2g's for a 9" or 12 Bolt later this year, but i dont want to right now because i dont have time to work on it.

Re: Mini-Spool For drag weekend

The only reason I proposed it was because you were looking for something cheap and quick. Not to mention were both in MI.

If the spool breaks something, you will be spending more then $500 lol. Whether it be body work from running into a wall, or fixing the floor from the draft shaft impaling something lol.

Your probably fine to run the spool for the weekend.

The rear end I have now is a 10 bolt with 4.56 richmond gears, auburn posi & newer axles ( I didn't put them in so I don't know what brand they were. They weren't marked from what I remember either.)

26 spline

It also has disc brakes.

BUT, if your looking to upgrade to a 9" or equal in the near future then I wouldn't bother

Re: Mini-Spool For drag weekend

You going to down to Milan this weekend for armdrop Live? Thats the only reason i was going to put the spool in. Just for a little more advantage. 4.56 gears are a little lower than i want to run. I appriciate the confidence in my 7.5. I hate not knowing if it will break. Im trailoring the car down there but i just dont want to break it. Especially with the dream cruise coming up in a couple of weeks. I think i will just keep the spool out of it and hope it doesnt come apart. Better safe then sorry.Good luck selling your rear.

Re: Mini-Spool For drag weekend

I hadn't made any plans, I thought it was a different weekend. But, now that you mention it, sounds like a good weekend, maybe I will go. I only live like 20 min from it.

What rpm are you shifting at?

Im shifting at 6.5k, im crossing the trap at 112 and the rpm is no where near my shift rpm. I need more power lol

***My need more power comment is irrelevant lol, I have nitrous completely installed, I just haven't filled the bottle yet lol
Also, when I do put the new rear end in, I will probably be going with 4.11, so I have room for more HP.

I also have 3.73 richmond gears for the rear end.

Re: Mini-Spool For drag weekend

Well the only time I took the car to the track was about 2 months ago. I had only like 500 miles on the new motor and was shifting at about 4500. I didnt want to put it to the test to early. Plus i had zz4 corvette heads that are to small for my 383. Worked great on the 355 though. If you know anyone who wants to buy them. I will probably try to sell them this weekend at the race. I plan on putting the shift light at 6gs this time and hopefully get a faster time. When i get the new rearend in, i plan on either NOS, or a weiland 142, or 671. But thats several thousands of dollars down the road.LOL, and wifey is not to fond of the money pit right now.LOL

lol, ya, your wifey and I have something in common lol.

Well, maybe ill see you at the race, what color is your car?

O btw, you may want to look at my other thread, its a good discussion on ford 9". The ending conclusion may very well be that a Dana 60 from Strange is cheaper then a 9".
