Can someone explain me how to properly install drive and driven gear ?

Hi there !

I've just rebuilt my rear axle, swapping from a factory 2.77:1 gear ration to a 3.23.

So I chose new drive and driven gears for having a correct speed indicated on my speedometer.

However, when I installed the drive gear, it was such a tight fit on the output shaft that I believe I didn't installed it in the correct position.

The driven gear seemed to contact the drive gear only on something like 2/3 of it surface area.

So, could someone explain me how to install properly the drive gear on the output shaft, and how to install properly its retaining clip, 'cause I guess I haven't understood the procedure very well.
