700R4 shift points

Anyone have any idea's on how to adjust the shift points? My 700R4 is shifting 2/3 too late (too high a RPM) at WOT. Manual shifting obvisously doesn't help any because I'm not trying to get it stay in gear and shift at a higher RPM but at a lower one. The transmission is in good shape otherwise and shifts fine during normal driving. The only changes made to the drivetrain are a change from 2.73 to 3.42 rear gears but I'm unaware of how this could make a difference. Most of my other cars that I have worked on in the past have been manual transmissions so I'm a little out of my element here.

Re: 700R4 shift points

Mine will not shift 2-3 at WOT when the cable is too tight. Just a click or two to loosen it up worked for me.

Re: 700R4 shift points

you can't change individual gears shift points without affecting something else on an automatic unless it is computer controlled. you can make adjustments one way or the other to make things closer or better though. on a 700r4 the t.v. cable and governor springs/weights change the shift points. the t.v. is adjusted near the throttle body/carb, and the governor requires buying a kit for different springs and weights. both are easy enough though. NOTE"""""" there is a little spring that can be added to the t.v. and it can pull the cable more at idle and light throttle and collapses at wide open!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a lot of people add this spring with a gear change....

Currently it is shifting at about 4900 RPM at WOT. I would like that to be about 4400 or 4500...
