700R4 Experts please help....

I, by accident had my car in first gear, and over revved it, now it does not want to shift out of first gear untill 7000 RPM, when it is floored....What could I have broken in the tranny to have caused this...It used to shift at 5500 RPM....89 model with Corvette servo, and B and M Shiftkit, Stock otherwise...It shifts fine when you are just cruising, but does not want to leave first untill 7000 When Floored.....Thanks for any help on this....Tom

I have never seen this before. Try TransGo's tech line, they might help. 626 443-7451.

Re: 700R4 Experts please help....

I was thinking maybe a governor wieght came off, or something...I know very little about Transmisions.......What exactly tells your tranny when to shift at full throttle??? Is it line pressure...We changed the servo at the same time this problem took place, so at first I thought it could be the servo, but I have never heard of a servo causing this type of problem....ANYONE?????

Does your engine really rev to 7000 rpms. Your engine doesn't seem to have that many mods to be doing that very often. Are you able to shift out of first if you lift off the gas slightly say when you hit the red line? Does it happen if you floor it in any other gear?

305 that revs to 7k RPM? That doesn't sound good to begin with. Engine specs?

the servo can cause a problem like that. you say you replaced it and you might have messed something up. I'd start by putting in the old one and verifying that you didn't. the servo pin might be jammed in the new servo and affecting pin length/

Re: 700R4 Experts please help....

To get a shift in the 700R your lookig for gov pressure to overcome throttle pressure... reading this i'd check the gov 1st if its working fine and moving freely i'd say you have a prob in the throttle valve. you'll have to pull the valve body to check all the valvetrain for stuck sticking or binding componets.. If thats where your prob lies i'd go to the trans go 700jr correction kit it replaces the problem valve with a much better valve and spring design and set up.

It does, and it is not good for it, so I do not run it up like I used to....I'm suprised I have not blown the poor little thing lomg ago.....I sure could have done something wrong in the install of the servo....It will shift if you let your foot up a little....AND at just plain ol cruising, it shifts just fine..Nice solid shifts...I have not RPM'ed it out in second gear to see where it shifts at....Thanks to all who have replied........Tom

Re: 700R4 Experts please help....

Like i said check the gov... but i'm betting your tv system has a stuck componet.. I've seen it happen a few times.. you may get lucky and be able to free it by maxing the tv cable out several times while the engine is at idle.. if everything is working right in that system you should hear a slight hum or whine or a change of pitch when you max the cable out.. if not start pullin the valve body..
