Since you say money is no problem, and you're using it for drag racing and not top speed, your best bet would be to go with a Lenco ST1200 4 or 5 speed. It's basically impossible to miss a gear with them, they have multiple cases, and each gear has it's own shifter.

They can also handle up to 1,200 horsepower, and from what Lenco says, they're very streetable, good enough for a daily driver. I'm considering going with a Lenco ST1200 6 speed for my Camaro, only problem is my 700R4 is about 30 inches long, their 6 speed is 42 inches due to the multiple cases to improve strength, so a custom driveshaft would be a must.

Re: Need help!!

There are several transmissions that would work. The Tremec TKO 500 and 600 transmissions are very popular. The Rockland Standard Gear Tranzilla 6 speed is a good transmission. G Force makes some good manual transmissions and Richmond makes 4,5 and 6 speed transmissions that would hold up well. Some of these are going to be easier to install than others, but all of them will work if you put the effort into it. Don't give in to the automatics. Stay strong and keep the clutch.

There's always the G-Force T-56 transmission that won't run into problems until over 900 horsepower. I definitely would not recommend a 6 speed for drag racing though, unless it's clutchless like the other G-Force transmissions.

It really depends on what your horsepower goal is, if it's under 700, a close to stock or slightly beefed up T-56 would be perfect, combined with a 4:10 rear, with some steeper gears in the actual transmission. That way you could start in first, and go through the traps in only 5th, or second to 6th, basically use it as a 5 speed, still with major acceleration, and speed.

If you decide on a T-56 definitely do not go with something with higher transmission ratios, you'll spend way too much time shifting, or having the tires spinning.

An old Ford 4 speed toploader would also be a great option, a lot of hot rodders back in the day used them, they're very tough transmissions. Like I mentioned no one could really recommend a transmission for your specific application until we know stuff like horsepower goals, weight, and what size tires you'll be using. All I can say is if you go with a 5 or 6 speed, you definitely need to check into getting a WOT box from N2MB Racing, so all your time is not wasted on the clutch and shifting, they retard the ignition while you're on the clutch, allowing you to keep up RPM's, and boost if you're going for a forced induction build.
