Speedo Cable

What all do you have to do to replace the speedo cable in a 88 camaro. It did have cruise control didn't work so I'm wanting to get rid of it. Any info would be great. Also where can I get one.

Remove the cable from the rear of the cluster and at the trans, remove a few retaining bolts and remove through the firewall. If you have a two-piece cable, I'd replace it with a one-piece. I purchased new from GM, but I'm sure you can find something at an auto parts store.

BTW, why do you want to replace it? It may simply require cleaning and lubing.

I would have thought that the old style transducer would have been long gone by 88. At any rate, you can replace the two-piece with a one-piece.

The speedo cable should not connect to the cruise on an 88 model. Is the cruise possibly a retrofit ? Dean.

Idk it looked stock to me it was all racume operated and it was a mess so to hell with it you know. To much trouble to get it to work if I ever restore it I'll fix it.
