700R4 slipping bad

Ok i just put in a 355 small block with a rebuilt 88 700R4 and it was rebuilt to work with a non-computer vehicle. The transmission guy said i didn't need a lockup controller since it was setup to not have one, so their is just a stock torque converter in it. the carburator is a holley 4bbl. I have tried everyway i have heard of on adjusting the tv cable but nothing is working. The tranny seems to shift ok under light throttle conditions but when you kick it down and it downshifts it will go for about a second then starts to slip bad. First gear seems ok but everything else sucks. It also seems to jump in and out of gears once in a while. Oh yeah reverse is not working either, it is like their is not a gear like going into nuetral. All the tranny lines are connected to a corvette radiator and the fluid is full( checked it while motor hot and running). I have 3.42 gears with a limited slip rearend. I also heard i needed to have the tranny calibrated for my rearend is this true. I need help fast since this is my daily driver buy i have quit driving it untill this problem is fixed.

First off, if your tranny is slipping in Reverse, unless the cable is not working at all you are looking at an O/H.

Next, the Holley will not work right, as is, with a 700. You will need an adapter to get the correct geometry for the TV Cable. The Governor does need to match the rear axle too.

Lastly, this is the correct adjustment: To adjust the TV Cable skip the book method and do this: Press the D button on the adjuster and loosen the cable setting. Now, have someone floor the gas pedal while you check to see if the throttle plate is open all the way. Usually they are off a little and will wiggle. Do whatever you have to do to get it open solid. Now, with the pedal still floored, press the D button and pull the cable casing (the black tube) back as hard as you can and release the button. You now have the engine, tranny and gas pedal all in sync at WOT. Mark the cable so if for some reason it gets moved you can know where to put it again. The problem with the 'self adjust method' is that it bends things and puts them permanently out of whack. It is also the full TV setting, which is theoretically what the GM method does.
