anyone using G-force T5 tranny upgrade??

Hey guys...this might be in wrong section, but...was wondering if anyone was or has used the g-force T5 kit I keep hearing about....I did a search found no responses on that......I was wanting to do a st-10 swap, (wanted tko but price limited at moment)....but then I saw that g-force kit was not that expensive but worried it would not hold up to a higher horse motor.....they claim it will, but figures I'd ask you guys.....let me know what you guys think....seems like a good idea and most cost effective.....thanks...

Re: anyone using G-force T5 tranny upgrade??

There are some great threads on here about g-force parts.

All in all, it's not eally worth it. The weak link in a T5 is the case and the dimensions(sp?) between the shafts. Although straight cut gears don't "push" apart nearly as bad as stock helical type gears, eventually the case will still fail and take out basically everything with it. - They will not stand behind it, and they're power ratings are worthless as it will only "hold" that power if you don't actually hook it up.

TKO all the way. "If you can't afford to do it right the first time, can you afford to do it again?"

Besides, a new TKO500 is less then $2k, and once you get everything for the T5 you'll find you have more than that in it.

Re: anyone using G-force T5 tranny upgrade??

thanks for the response.....yeah I read a bunch of post about the g-gorce, but no-one saying for sure good or bad......
question for ya.....just for options purposes......can you do anything to re-enforce the case of the t5 making it usable with this kit...like welding bracing to it????? Nothing can be done about shaft lengths I know....
I'll take a look again at the tko....last time I checked I think it was more expensive than that.....if a full conversion kit is under $2K than I'll probably spend less that way than the other way, since at moment I have NO 5 speed parts yet...have to buy everything.....I was hoping to spend around a grand...tight budget...but I guess I would have a excellent condition 700r4 to sell to help compensate cost (don't know how much autos go for but...).....thanks

Not sure if that's what you're looking for in regard to Tremec. Has info on it, but they don't sell retail and have nothing about pricing, etc..

Re: anyone using G-force T5 tranny upgrade??

But no one has actually tried the G-force transmission t-5.....I would hate to be the first to use it....I'm not doing 4K clutch dumps with slicks....so I assume that their claimed "600hp" holding force will work....I don't have 600 horse so.....I don't know....

Another question if something could answer hopefully so I don't have to post a new thread is the use of dog ring straight cut gears in a road car....I know people use those for drag racing but how about using that for downshifting and engine braking.....good idea or should I stick to a trans with the regular style angled cut gears???

5678TA, i think thats right, its a grey firebird with a scoop, hes from hawaii i think, has the g-force trans, it has the upgraded maincase as well as gears. He seems to be havning good luck with it, maybe PM him.

But that trans, with gears case and ect upgrades, costs as much as a tko, so i dont really see the point since the tko is proven, and the g-force t5 is iffy

Re: anyone using G-force T5 tranny upgrade??

+1 for the tko. don't take this the wrong way, but doing this swap as cheap as possible will almost guarantee that you are going to do it again resulting in a much higher final cost. I made the mistake when i put a t56 in my regal. got a relatively good deal but then had to replace the flywheel(someone drilled out a snapped off bolt and took out the threads, reverse blocker (someone left out a spacer on main shaft), bought a new shifter because someone took the detent spring out and i thought the shifter was shot, and a new clutch because the one i got with it took a serious dump. Oh yeah, then i had to replace the hydraulics because the one i got with the trans was used in 2 cars before i got it and it would just end up making life miserable. Now i might have to have it pro rebuilt to tighten up the tolerances because i don't want to take it apart again and mess anything up so i have to fix it again. Had i purchased a brand new t56 then scored the bell and such i would have paid as much with less headache. Just one man's experience.....totally worth it in the end! Start saving change!
