89 Iroc Auto to Manual Swap...HELP!!

Ok. . . I have an 89 Iroc 350 engine and im wanting to swap the auto to a manual. With so many choices out there I am trying to figure out whats going to be the best option to go with. Basically I need the questions answered as to what kind of modifications are required. whats going to be able to hold the most torque (im sure its gonna be the tko 500). its going to be an everyday driver but when i wanna put my foot into it i dont wanna start throwing out gears!--which of course is gonna depend on how well the rebuild is. I am looking to rebuild most of the transmissions listed below..unless its a tko 500 then i might as well buy one new:::

t5..modifications needed/better for the value/how will it hold up?
t56..
tko 500..

those are the 3 main ones im looking at..however i would like to know if it is possible, and if so what kind of modifications would be needed to put a tremec 3550 or 3650 into the camaro....

im sure this has already been covered plenty of times on this site but it would help if i someone could answer my specific questions. . . any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: 89 Iroc Auto to Manual Swap...HELP!!

The LT1 T56 is going to be the best value, especially for a stockish 350 and spirited driving. There's stickies at the top of this forum on T5s, T56 swaps, and there are several TKO swap threads that you can find with an Advanced search..

3550 and 3560 swaps will be troublesome finding a correct bellhousing/input/clutch/FW setup since they weren't OEM'd by GM.

hello welcome to thirdgen.org.........there is a bunch of info on this....just go to search and you can find threads.....or just go to the message board main page....click on transmissions, and scroll down....I just did a thread on this two days ago....
pretty much the response was for a manual...best option is the tremec TKO-500 or TKO-600 transmissions (3550 or 3650) believe site is www.keislerauto.com

Re: 89 Iroc Auto to Manual Swap...HELP!!

Thanks to the both of you! I will do a little more researching and see what I can find out. I know the T56 is a popular choice but in the long run I guess I am basically trying to see if the TKO 500 would be the better choice if the t56 is going to have to be rebuilt. Price comparison on the rebuild vs purchasing a new tko 500 would it be worth it to go with the t56. I will do a little more searching on the threads and see what i can find though. Thanks again!
