I am in the process of trying to gather parts for my T56 swap and I have been looking at clutches due to the fact that the clutch that comes with the trans will probably be worn out. I wanted to know if you guys that have experience with manual transmissions and differential type of clutches could make some suggestions?
I won't be drag racing the car or anything. However, I would like to clutch to be able to withstand some power. The car will be more of a weekend warrior after the swap. I guess I'm looking for a something that is above stock but not an all out racing clutch.
i use a dual friction centerforce held up to my 330 at the wheels so far and clutch dumpin at the track at 4800 a new company to is competion clutch they did our honda drag car carbon fiber setup that holds up to 1100 horse
From what I have been reading here and on other sites is some people have good experiences with some clutches and others don't. Its seems to me like hit or miss. That's kinda what I've come to expect from aftermarket products though. Anyway, I guess I will have to pick one that closely matches what I'm looking for and hope that it will last.
Basically, when I get done with my car I want to be in the 375- 400rwhp range. Probably not even that much more like 350-375rwhp. My car will be used for cruising I may occasionally get on it hard. Other then that, I just want a clutch that is dependable and one that does not take away from the car being fun to drive.

I have been looking into RAM, Zoom and Hayes myself. How many miles have you put on it so far?

I was running a Muncie for a lot of years, so I had a 10 spline Ram unit for probably about 20K miles, and it still had lots of life left, probably about half to go. I just put a TKO in there and had to get a 26 spline clutch, and I went with another Ram unit, and it works just as good as the old one did. Personally, I'd avoid Zoom and Hays. Zoom is cheaply made and Hays is still using the same technology they had probably 30 years ago. I used a Hays clutch some years ago, and it didn't last worth a damn. Lots of people have also had good luck with Centerforce, as mentioned above. So I'd say flip a coin between Centerforce or Ram. Another thing that's nice about the Ram discs is that they have the poly-coated springs in the carrier, which helps absorb the driveline shock better when you dump it hard. Hays is owned by Mr. Gasket, who was bought out by a Chinese company not long ago, and even before that, Mr. Gasket has always had chintzy products anyways. I'll bet Zoom is probably made in China as well. CF and Ram cost more of course, but the difference in quality is obvious. That's my .02, take it for what it's worth. P.S. You can't go wrong with McLeod either.
