Question for the Mustang Guys!

I know there are several of you guys on here who seem fairly knowledgeable & open-minded so I figured I'd post this here first. My roommate is in the process of purchasing a 92 5.0 LX automatic. The car is bone stock & in awesome shape but he wants to make it a health street car/daily driver. How hard is it to convert to a 5-speed? I know the driveshaft is interchangeable but is the 5.0 & 2.3 stuff interchangeable, such as linkage etc.? Or would he be better off keeping it as an auto & adding a stall converter & shiftkit. The car does have 120K on it so the auto would probably need a rebuild if adding the converter. Any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated!

IF you do stick with the AOD auto, you MUST use the TransGo Reprogramming Kit or you will repeatedly go through trannies. If you aren't already on it go to:

as far as 2.3 and 5.0 stuff being interchangeable, you prolly don't wanna do that. The 2.3 is a p***y engine, and any tranny parts would be torn apart by the 5 liter, not to mention I don't think they share the same parts. as for going to a 5-speed, it takes some work, U need to by the tranny, the clutch assembly, the petal assembly, which is actualy quite expensive, even used, and all he miscalanious (sp.??) parts to go along with it. If I were you, I would try and find some one selling a recently re-build aod or c-4, c-6 and just put a better converter in it. When my bro blew the tranny in his T-Bird he got a very nicely built aod from a 450 h.p stang for 250$, thing shifts like gold, and it takes all the abuse my bro throws at it, which is alot. If you want better information, go to www.corral.net just like thirdgen.org, only for stangbangers, good luck

My 383 is in the process of being built right now, hopefully to make it's debut by middle December. . . many more mods to come in the summer. . maybe some experimentations with juice. . have some track times my independence day.

The tranny will work but you have to get a different bell housing
I have seen the 4 cylinder trannys run 12's in the quarter
Just have to know how to drive!

i would probably just have the AOD built up they are more consistant at the track and will handle the abuse better then a T-5 would after time the syncro s in the 5 spd will take a s**t even under stock power unless you have the $$$$ for a tremec or something stronger stick with the AOD
