I am wondering if any one has done, or knows where to find the information to swap the GM 10 bolt to a ford 8.8 rear posi unit... i know some of you might be offended by this thread, and i appologize for that... its just some manufactors do it better than others.. i believe that the 8.8 and the 9" is a very strong and reliable rear end..... plus im parting out cougar and it has a Built 8.8 with 373 gears....
I would guess you're not getting much response due to your wording. It's hard to decipher what you are wanting to do.
If you're talking putting a complete 8.8 under your f-body, then the thread link above should get you a considerable amount of the info you're looking for.
It is very difficult to swap rears under these cars due to their unique suspension system.
Yes i was wanting to swap out the stock original rear end and install the ford 8.8" rear end. the rear end was off of a 89-93 thunderbird supercoupe.. i had it installed on my 94 cougar for 2 years until the motor blew. i was just trying to be resourseful and use it on my 87 z28. It seems like a pretty detailed, complicated swap. however the winter is approaching and it would be a project for then. i have a complete rearend/suspension, rear brake set up. it sounds like that would be needed. i just dont to like the fact of the ford bolt pattern though... IDK. im sure the answers will come
If your axles have full faced flanges(no extra holes besides the studs) you can have them re-drilled to the GM 5x4.75. I have done a set in a drill press by using a dual pattern wheel to align the holes. It's a time consuming process and requires a couple good drill bits(must be done in steps up to size); axles are very hard material.
The control arms and spring perches are the easy part, getting the tq arm mounted solidly/securely is very difficult.

If I'm not mistaken, the 89-97 Thunderbird, and Cougar came with IRS, not a live axle setup, I've owned three of them, so I'm pretty sure. If you want to go that route, you've got a lot of work ahead of you.
