Re: 700r4 4l80 4l80e whats the diference

700R4. Common 4 speed transmission. Good for the street with a low first gear and an overdrive.

There is no such thing as a 4L80

4L80E. Electronic version of a TH400. Shares roughly 80% of the internal parts and has the same gear ratios except it also has an overdrive. This transmission is very big and weighs about 250 pounds. Although a conversion is available, it requires a computer to control the transmission.

4L60E. An electronic version of the 700R4. Like the 4L80E, a computer is required to control the transmission.

Depending which V6 is in the fourth gens, the tranny may not fit onto the 305 because of a different bellhousing bolt pattern.
