700r4 linkage problem? - Third Generation F-Body Message Boards

i swapped out 700r4's and i ran into a snag. the problem is when i connected the cable and linkage, the cable will not push gear shifting tab on tranny back. i know the way im wording it may be confusing.... the tranny is dry as in no transmission fluid in it yet. that may be the problem but im not sure. ill try to rephrase it again. with the key turned, brake down , and shift into drive the tranny linkage does what its suposed to do but then when you go back into park the cable does not push foward to disengage tranny. hope that was better.

Have you tried a new shifter cable? Is the mount on the tranny for the cable identical to the old (ie not bent or anything)?

Cable isnt adjusted right

Slide the cable to tranny arm as far back as you can and slide the bracket as far forward as possible

If it still wont reach youll have to elongate the bracket holes

everything is exactly identical, same 700r4 as the old one. its almost like then you go from drive to park the cable doesnt have enough force to push the shifting arm back or like the cable is going somewhere else besides pushing out. what do you mean elongate the holes?

I would almost bet the cable was broke during the swap... i,ve done it way too many times.. I know better but its in the way coming down. i try to use the traction arm to pin the cable out of the way and still end up breakin the cable.

i was told that sice it was a dry tranny (no fluid) that that may be the problem. the trans goes from park to drive fine but going to drive to park the cable doesnt move.

If you can move the shifer arm by hand you should be able to do so by cable as well

Wet or dry makes no difference

Elongate means turn the circle hole and make it an oval to slightly adjust the bracket in a direction
