'92 Z28.... 700R4 or 4L60E ????

Thinking about buying back one of my old cars, a '92 25th annev Z28. It has the 305 TPI with auto trans. Reverse has now gone out in the trans and am wondering if an '88 model 700R4 will work in it, or if it is an electronic shift 4L60E trans. I also have a major race built carbed 355 and full race th350 I can put in also, but I really hate to mess up the car, it's still in nice condition!

92 is still a 700R4. The 88 will have a mechanical speedometer drive, I think you can just stick the electric one from your 92 into it assuming they both have the same speedometer drive gears inside.

I can't think of any other differences...

Your 92 will have the magnetic reluctor on the output shaft. You will have to get a puller to remove it. The 88 has a gear driven speedo but it is only held on the shaft with a clip. Otherwise the trans will be the same.

The '88 trans I have is from Suburban and I had it rebuilt first of the year and installed. IIRC it has the elec speedo drive set up. Thanks for the info. You guys on this site are awsome for tech info on these cars!!!
