I'm stumped

I haven't dug deep into the problem yet but here is what happened. this afternoon I get in my Maro (Alice) and I put her into reverse I back up about five feet and i hear what sounds like my tailpipe hitting the curb. I proceed on my trip when at the first stop light I step on the brakes and the whole car shudders to beat the band the brake pedal feels as though it is moving up and down a good inch or more. Its not warped rotors. I jacked it up and looked to see if it was the U-joints they seem fine Oh I also hear a humming noise when i am just driving down the road. I also can't pinpoint if its from the front or the rear of the car

Re: I'm stumped

Perhaps broken springs in the drums or the sroes are down to the rivets? I would definitely check the rear brakes.

Re: I'm stumped

You were close I got to looking at Alice today and I found the problem the rear brake drum is cracked well a big chunk is missing hence the shudder when I applied the brakes the shoe would hit the missing part and go out farther then when it came back to the drum it would push the brake fluid back into the reservoir sort of an odd problem but it is fixed. Now I can get back to work on the body panels
