700r4 4x4

i tried searching for something that would answer this but my damn browser keeps signing me off when i try, so anyways im in need of a new trans and i found a nice 700r4 for 75$! could i throw this in my z28? would it work? >.> and also if need could i convert it to 4x4? how expensive would that get X_x?

ok ive found some one elses plea for the same thing lol the only problem is there wasnt anydetailed in his thread either XD so can some one please give a reasonable detailed answer for use less mech friendly?

If you want to convert it to a 4x4
The output shaft needs to changed it is a shorter shaft and the transmission has to come completely apart to do this, and you need to replace the tail shaft housing to one that will fit the transfer case you will be using.I have just done this to mine that I am transplanting into my jeep

As noted above, 4wd transmissions have a considerably shorter output shaft. Changing it requires basically a complete dissassembly.

If it is a 2wd trans from other than an f-body you will likely need to carry over your f-body tail housing due to the tq arm mount(assuming stock/tailshaft mounted) and while you are in there, carry over your speedo gears to properly calibrate the speedometer.
