question about free play adjustments on 5sp

i am experiencing hard shifting in all gears. i can push the clutch to the floor and try to shift but the shifter wont budge. i push and pull as hard as i can probably breaking everything and cant shift gears. it does this after i get the car moving and wont shift from 1st to reverse sitting still i have to go into 5th gear then to reverse. is there an adjustment i need to make. work on the clutch or pressure plates etc any help is appreciated.

The clutch could be not disengaging all the way. Either an adjustment problem in the clutch linkage or if your car the hydraulics are getting worn out. The transmission should shift fairly easily. You should be able to go from first to reverse without much trouble. I'm not aware of any adjustments you can make on the shift linkage to cure this problem.

You've most likely got a clutch issue. Either that, or you fried every syncro in the transmission. The shift linkage is not adjustable on a T5.

Will it shift normally with the engine off and the car sitting still?

it does shift when its not running. it warms up after about the first cycle of gear shifts it starts. i can feel it getting harder and harder to shift then after a while it wont. ive gotten the most problems in first gear when im stopped or stopping. i usually put it into first gear when im at a light or stop sign. putting it in first is hard or if i leave it in neutral until it turns green it wont shift. its driving me crazy every time i fix something i say its the last time and then im going to sell it.

How's your fluid level in the trans?

If you go to the top of a hill(deserted backroad preferably) and leave it in gear but push the clutch in, see if it rolls freely down the hill. The tach should stay at idle the whole time and you should pick up speed. That will tell you if the clutch is not disengaging the whole way.
