1. So i have an 86 Z28 Camaro, the transmission went out on it. I picked up a 93 700/4l60, whatever you want to call it. I got the 5 pin connector coming in the mail. My question is, do i just have to put the wires from the 4 pin into the 5 pin?

2. Another thing is that my 86 trans only has 2 wires in it. I pulled the pan off the 93 and thats got alot more wiring in it (i know what the 4l60E is and it is not that). I read that all i have to do is put the other 4th gear clutch switch in, is this even required if i only had 2 wires in the trans on the old one? I'm still using the ecm for the tpi, and all the threads about 93 700's or 4l60's swaps the people are using carbed vehicles...

Re: 700R4/4L60 experts

im pretty sure the 700r4/4L60 ended after 92... and would think the 93 is a 4L60E

the 4L60E wont just bolt up... since its electronically controlled. im not even sure but the 4L60E's didnt come with TV cables right? since they were all controlled with electronics?

anyway back to ur ?s... i dont see how your 86 could only have 2 wires... 2 wires that go to the electronic speedo in a weather pack connector, and it should have a 4pin weather back connector on the side to control converter lockup functions. it is a 4pin weatherpack connector but there are only 3 pins being used.... which results in only 3 wires in the valve body are. 2 go to the TCC selenoid located at the front of the trans in the pump. and the other to a pressure switch on the valve body. ive rebuilt 3 700r4/4L60s... one was a 86 without an external valve body, an 87 with aux valve body and a 89 as well. all of them were the same 3 wire configuration. if you got more wires then u got a 4L60E... sry guy

here is a pic of it it has a TV cable, i already know it is from a 93 camaro Z28 with an LT1 and it is NOT a 4L60E

Also the 86 camaro doesn't have an electronic controlled speedometer, it is cable driven. I swapped in different gears for it when i put in a new differential with a different axle ratio.

and here is a pic of the transmission in the 86 with only 2 wires...

Re: 700R4/4L60 experts

you should have posted pics before. ok thats not a 4L60E... but my 86 700r4 was a newer verson and had a electronic speedo. the 89 i built out of a truck had a cable speedo. yours must be an older 86.

ok those 2 wires are the TCC lockup.. you dont seem to have the pressure switch on the valve body which is fine as well as no external valve body. your 2 pin connector that is on the outside of the case which connects the TCC lockup is what you need to connect to. i dont understand why u need a 5pin connector? the ouside connector is prob a 4pin peice and there are prob only 2 pins being used. the pink/orange/red color wire is the hot wire for the TCC and the black is the ground. your ECM should control that TCC just fine. just make sure you connect the correct wires to the correct wires for the ECM and your good. there is only 1 4th gear clutch switch which is the TCC seleniod which you have. unless ur talking about the other pressure switch? which is basically just a pressure switch on the valve body

like i said the ones ive worked on had 3 wires... the 2 that you have an a 3rd wire that went to a pressure switch on the valve body. they are all the same with or without the pressure switch. just make sure you hook up the hot wire to the ECM hot wire and the ground to the ground.

Re: 700R4/4L60 experts

sorry, I should have made this more clear. I got the 93 700/4l60 to put in the car. That is why i bought the 5 pin connector. So will the new tranny with all the electronics in it for the lock up work just hooking up the two wires instead of the 5?

Re: 700R4/4L60 experts

1993's are 700R4's in Camaros, Firebirds and Corvettes. Take the wiring and plug from your 1986 and put it in the 1993. You can leave the other switches unconnected, or you can plug them with 1/4" pipe plug fittings. Now the lockup will work as before. Take the speedometer gears from your transmission and install them in reverse order in the 1993. Use a gear puller, or a splitter to remove the steel gear. Use the forward hole on the output shaft for the gear clip. Make sure that you adjust the TV cable correctly (critical) before you drive it. Dana

Re: 700R4/4L60 experts

The 93s have a 5 pin round connector. where my 90 had a square 4 pin. Tom all i did was swap the wires/pins out of my 90 four pin connector. Into the five pin connector for the 93 tranny. And everything worked fine there is a GMMP website that tells what pin goes where. It was really easy just cant remember exactly where each pin went in the five pin weather pack connector. No splicing needed for my 90 to 93 swap.
