| Play in gear shift knob
I have a 92 Camaro - V6 automatic transmission. Yesterday when I went to drive it I shifted it from P to OD and it felt loose and the lever went all the way down to 3. The car was really only in neutral. I pulled the shifter 1 more notch toward me and felt it go into OD. I then pushed the lever upward to the OD position without the car shifting. It ran and I drove it normally. The car goes into park normally.
Normally the gears are clearly noticible and there is no play in the shift lever. I opened the compartment around the lever itself and everything looked normal, nothing broken or worn. I am thinking that something has come loose on the transmission or a spring is worn somewhere underneath the car.
Has anyone experienced this? If so what was the fix and how much did it cost roughly?
