Speedo operation Q ???

Well, wifes 700R crapped in my 86 (her) TA, i removed the trans in favor of a 91 truck 700R and swapped tail housings, it has the metal sleeve and magnetic style speedo setup instead of gear driven on hers, can i splice the truck style plug in to get it to work or is there more PITA work to it than that?

Never ran into this problem before.

Re: Speedo operation Q ???

I wonder how it will be, the original gear was a 2.73 and i swapped it to a 3.23, so if it has a 3.23 in the truck the trans cam out of it might be right.

Re: Speedo operation Q ???

Ok, it sounds like you're making this far harder than it needs to be. Reuse the old speedo parts, all of them. If you changed the rear end gear, you will need to change gears accordingly. I'm too lazy to type it all out, call if you want.

Re: Speedo operation Q ???

Well, then it should work i would hope. The problem is, the hook up for the trans am is not the same as the trans from the truck. I could nto swap it all out on the tail shaft since it had that sleeve i could not figure out how to remove...if you can even remove it.

Re: Speedo operation Q ???

It can be removed. Look in the tech articles for pics but there is a little spring clip you need to fight with. Also, it is very nearly press fit, so... hammer time. Carefully.

Re: Speedo operation Q ???

Well, if i can get the pig tail fro the truck and splice it, that is the way i will go, other than that, i will have my trans guy do it since it is his bag. He wont charge much if it is reall possible.

Re: Speedo operation Q ???

Is the speedo in the car electronic? My 86 was mechanical. If electronic, they should be roughly interchangeable.

Re: Speedo operation Q ???

So, I would say, use the pickup and sleeve from the old tranny. Reluctor rings are generally the same for 700s.
