700r4 rebuild problem

had my trans rebuilt shifts thru all four gears, but when downshifting itll downshift from 4-3,3-2, but when going into first its like you just put it in neutral. you can slow down to about 2 mph and itll shift to first and pull just fine, but if you let off the throttle its back to neutral.you can rev the engine and it wont pull until you slow back down to 2 mph. is it something in the valve body maybe? oh the trans pulled and shifted fine before rebuild ,it just lost 3-4 so i had it rebuilt now this.if you guys have any ideas im wide open to try them.all clutches and band were replaced. valve body was removed for cleaning all new gaskets and filter.could it be electrical?the guy that rebuilt it does it a lot ,i just couldnt get in touch with him today,so thought id ask here thanks, jimmy

Re: 700r4 rebuild problem

i carried it back today ,we checked the governor . it was fine. we think we have it figured out. i just carried the trans to him ,he didnt ask the year of the car. seems it matters what year it is.82-87 get a checkball that 88-92 doesnt and he thinks he put it in there. taking it back tomorrow to pull valvebody off to see. hope it fixes it.i will update when i find out, jimmy

Re: 700r4 rebuild problem

yeah, on the valve body the early takes 3(one of them is big), and the late takes 2 both standard 1/4" balls. BTW under the separator plate there is a difference in the checkballs. on a no aux v.b. it takes one near the shifter and the later with aux. v.b doesn't because it has an encapsulated ball next to the l/r piston. Hollar back if you need to know "for real" how they are supposed to be.

Re: 700r4 rebuild problem

took it back today we pulled it down to the case the ball we thought was in it wasnt. i did notice however it only had 1 ball in the valve body, instead of 2 (in the valvebody itself) i thought it was suppose to have 2 balls in it,jimmy

Re: 700r4 rebuild problem

this f#@%&^* trans is posessed. got in it today to drive about an eighth mile and ,pulled it back in low started off ,pulled fine. shifted to second it almost stopped in the road ( binding up) went to neutral , back to low pulled fine. left it in low , let off and guess what it decides itll slow down like its suppose to.cut it off to get some tools, start back home, lets leave it in low to see what happens, its works flawlesssly. start up the hill home shift into second , pulls great. drive ,overdrive just fine. so i drive down the street turn around, start off in drive pulls great. drove it a couple more times changes fine , so i guess well see what happens.i did nothing to it . are you as confused as i am. maybe an electrical gremlin or trash that moved? im still gonna have it looked at ,my trans man has been swamped lately, and im working when he can look at it so ill update if anything changes, jimmy
