History: Trans would shift from first to second but was slipping in second. Reverse was working. No shift to third or fourth, just felt like it went to neutral. I pulled the pan to check the filter and noticed a large gap between the TV lever and plunger. Rechecked my TV cable adjustment and figured out it was way off. Readjusted cable and now I have about a 1/4" gap between the TV lever and plunger.
Question: Is this 1/4" gap normal? If not, do I have a sticking TV valve? Was this the reason for the shift concerns?
I just figured out that my throttle bracket was bent as well, was only getting about 3/4 blade opening.
On the TV valve issue:
I adjusted (bent) the throttle bracket to where I think it should be. Re-adjusted the TV cable. With the pan off the trans, my wife pushed the pedal to the floor and I watched the TV lever bottom out on the sleeve and heard the cable snapping into position. When she released the accelerator pedal the lever returned back to a similar gap that I had in the beginning.
I think this is correct per the diagrams and pictures on the TVMADEEZ website.If I slide the plunger out to touch the lever it is at the sixth groove from the end.
Agree or confirm this should be correct?

Is the car a daily driver? If it is, I am planning to drop my valve body sometime in the near future and I could see where mine is at. If it is a daily driver, there might be someone else on here that knows off the top of their head. If you can easily slide the valve by hand, and you pushed that insert in, then turned throttle to wide open until that ratcheting insert pulled out as far as it needed to go. That should be all you are required to do. I believe the bracket is just a 90* angle, so as long as you have it straight up, that should be correct.
If no one else responds, I'll try to check mine out in the near future.
Not a daily driver. Possibly in the future it might be if it proves to be reliable. I've had the car all summer just fixing all of the small problems I inherited with it. It's a 1991 Formula 5.7 by the way. At the point now of making sure it's road worthy and safe (just in time for winter!). Better late than never.
I'll probably just put the pan back on it and test it out. I will post the results afterward.
the 3-4 clutches are normally the first set to go bad. causes your symptom. 1-2 shifts and the shift to third neutrals/ obviously if you don't get third you won't get fourth. not trying to be pessimist-just trying to let you know one of the symptoms you described.
You can fix it without gutting the whole trans. Just remove the trans, pull the pan-filter-tcc solenoid-and aux. tube if equipped, then remove the pump and pop the band off it's anchor, then pull the shaft(includes input drum and reverse input drum with the band. the 3-4 clutches will be the first set in the aluminum input drum. replace clutches and steels and air check, and re-install in reverse order. hope that gives some inspiration
When the TV cable is adjusted correctly, you will "see" the TV plunger in the valve body "fully depressed" at WOT. Anything more than .050" of the TV plunger sticking out of the plunger bushing, is too much.
can anyone tell me why when i go to do the tv cable ajustment nothing happens i open it to WOT and it doesnt move at all??? Help
Maybe disconnected from the TV lever inside the trans...? Pull the pan and see what (if anything) is happening when the throttle is depressed.
I road tested with the TV cable set correctly and the throttle bracket as I think it should be. Still no 2-3 shift. So I'm concluding that ED O is right and I need to pull the trans.
