TCI manual valve body no 4th gear-Trans expert needed!

I am having issues with my 700r4 with the tci reverse manual valve body. 4th gear will not apply most of the time. Occationally 4th will come in under low power settings but will slide right back out when power is applied. It also jerks between 3rd and 4th and then reverts back to third. Could it be my forward clutch not applying or 4th servo? All other gears work fine with no slipping. Any ideas?

Re: TCI manual valve body no 4th gear-Trans expert needed!

the tci manual v.b. requires replacing the servo. did you do it properly-it applies the band and if cocked or damaged during assembly won't work. also did you eliminate the accumulator completely under the separator plate or what. you're pretty vague on the mods made. did you install the v.b. with instructions or was it a used item. there are also more instructions i'm not mentioning that could've been overlooked.

ed o thanks for the reply. The vb was installed by a trans shop back in Birmingham where I used to live. I am not confident in them and it has never been quite right since I got it back from them. I have just now had a chance to look back into it. I do know that they installed a new (larger...corvette I belive) servo when they did the swap as far as the accumulator goes...I dont know unfortunately. Beast sunshell, 5 planetaries...and thats all I can recall. I was having the trans rebuilt when they put the vb in and everything was new. I do know that the tv has been disabled w/ the valve body.
I am trying to get an idea of what to look at when I get a chance to look at it. I hate to take it somewhere if it is somthing that I can do without pulling the trans back out of the car. Any guidence would be greatly appriciated. Even a web site or book with theory of opperation would be great.

thanks again.
