Hey Gang... New to the board...just bought an 84 Z28 with a 420hp 350ci and t5. Anyhoo, I was in the garage last night, and I had the clutch pedal depressed, when SNAP! A loud crack sound followed by loose pedal and no clutch. I jacked it up on the driver's side, and looked at the trans while pressing the clutch...the hydraulic slave is moving the fork back and forth, so it's not the hyd clutch. I am thinking that it's either the fork, the pivot, or the throwout bearing. Any ideas for you guys would be MOST appreciated. It shuold be noted that there is a stiffer-than-stock Centerforce Dual friction clutch in there. Is there a weak part in there somewhere? I am going to get it up in jacks and see if I can peek into the fork hole to try to see the problem. I'll check the board before I get to it. Thanks! Ty

Could be a few things like you said fork, throwout bearing. It could of what happened when you depressed the throwout bearing broke the pressure plate and pushed through I seen this happen Before. So just basically all i can tell ya is pull it apart and might as well get a new clutch kit. Its so much easier to pull it apart and find out the problem and have a clutch kit ready to be put back in. And if its not that then you can refund the kit.

Makes sense...didn't think of that happening...I'll let you know if you were right when I look at it. Thanks for the reply.

The Weak point would be the T5. with 420hp it proly won't last long.
Anywho, MY first thought is that the rod popped off the pedal, but you said that the slave is still moving so scratch that. MY second thought is that the throwout bearing was installed wrong, causing it to fail suddenly, people have told me that something like that would happen.

HOORAY!!! I was backing the car out of the shop to get the hoist ready to start to diagnose the problem. I needed to move the car a few feet (while by myself...) so I put it into reverse and bumped it with the starter..it went SNAP (again..) and started working. So I put er on the hoist and had a peek past the fork boot. The car has a Centerforce Dual Friction clutch, and it appears that the pedal has too much travel. So, while I had the pedal to the floor the other day, the throwout bearing went in too deep, and the edge of the weights hung up on the edge of the bearing. So, I welded a nut onto the side of the clutch pedal arm, allowing me to insert a bolt and jam nut from the bottom to adjust the travel on the clutch.
