I did some searching and found a few things that might help, but no one seems to have the same symptoms im having.
Whenever i go to shift into reverse after starting the car, sometimes it just wont do anything, only sometimes, but thats enough to let anyone know that somethings not working right, and ill have to put it all the way in 1st, then back to park, then to reverse and it will go into reverse, ive heard some stuff on the tv cable, ill be honest.. i dont know what that is really... lol, all i know is it has something to do with telling the transmission when to shift at certain rpms... or something like that..
And another thing, when i go to park the car, sometimes it will just keep rolling once i let off the brake, so i reapply the brake, and bang upwards on the shifter, thennnn it goes into park
aaaalso... its seems to take a while to go into overdrive
thanks

It's not anything at all to do with your transmission it's self, I had this exact problem. I used to put my IROC into park, and what did it do? Keep rolling. You have a worn out shifter cable, or at least a loose one.
One night, I went outside to put my IROC in the garage, it was getting ready to rain, I pull the shifter, to go to drive, what happens? Nothing, the shifter just slid back and forth. I managed to crawl under the car, get it into neutral, and push it into the garage.
I went out the next morning, you know, just playing with the shifter, seeing if I can figure out what exactly went wrong, couldn't figure it out at all. So, jacked up the car, and what do you know, the shifter cable became loose, got knotted, and would not do anything.
You're going to need a new cable, I picked one up for I think only 15 bucks, if that, can't remember. At least hope a cable will fix it, internal transmission problems = bad.
I hate automatics so much. I cannot wait until spring, to go digging in the junkyard for a T-56 out of a 93-97 LT-1, and ship it off to Tick Performance for a rebuild.
cool, i hope thats all it is, and im hoping that im just being paranoid about it taking a while to shift into overdrive, illl check the cable today, thanks
If you can put it in "manual 1st" and then go back to reverse and now it will engage, then the low/reverse piston seals are getting hard. Manual "one" uses a different apply area of the low reverse piston than reverse uses, and the movement of the piston is what I am thinking that it is a seal getting hrad. Does it change when the transmission is hot?
no it still does the same thing even when warmed up, yesterday i had a hard time getting it to go into reverse, and this was after coming back from the store, so it had just been driven not but 10 mins before
also sometimes it wont go into drive either, but this is coming from park, once i have it in drive it shifts just fine, and it will go into reverse from drive every time, its only when i come out of park
and its a real pain to get it to go into park sometimes, if i dont bang upwards on the shifter after putting it in park it wont park, i can take the key out of the ignition after this, but the car will roll unless i bang on the shifter, i know somethings worn out but i dont know what...
The problem now sounds like it is in your linkage. Check the outside of the transmission at the at the selector shaft for any problems, elongated holes, loose nut, etc. Most likely this is on the inside in the rooster comb area where the shaft goes through the rooster comb. If the nut is loose, then it will have most likely elongated the slot. You might have to replace the rooster comb and the selector shaft. When removing the selector shaft you will have to file off the high spots on the shaft so it can be removed without gouging the shaft hole on removal. It "must" come out fairly easy. Put the new parts back in reverse order carefully and "do not" over tighten anything. This should solve the problem here.
