What trans should I put in?

Hi, I am kind of new to camaro and was thinking about buying a 1987 iroc z with a 350 tpi in it, but the tranny is completly garbage. I need help deciding if I should just buy a used 700r4 or should I get a new th350 tranny. By the way, i don't have alot of money at all to spend so any response will be helpful, thanks.

Re: What trans should I put in?

i would put a 4L80 but thats just me, the 700r4 is just not that good of a tranny, i just had to rebuild mine and next time it goes out (and i know it will cause they just cant handle a lot of power very long) im just gonna put a 4L80 in just my $.02

Re: What trans should I put in?

For a stock to mild 350 tpi a 700r4 can be built to handle the horsepower no problem. If you want to go a th350 route you lose overdrive and have to buy a mouting kit and get the longer tail to make it work. Both the 700r4 and th350 are just as strong as each other when properly built. the 4l80e is over kill for a stock 350tpi.
