Saving a slipyoke

I've done this several times over the years, with no problems yet.

Looks good. As long as there is no pitting on the surface there shouldn't be any problems. Pitting will tear up a seal in no time. Slip yokes do wear out over time too. I wrap my spare slip yokes with tape to prevent rust from forming, also helps keep stuff off the inside splines.

Re: Saving a slipyoke

All good thoughts, but rusty is how they tend to be when you buy a used driveshaft. be sure to measure the outside diameter in several places, after you get it shiny, to be sure it's worth paying for.

Re: Saving a slipyoke

I usually smear axle bearing grease on it to keep it from rusting when i set driveshafts aside. on the spines too so they don't rust either.

They also make a sleeve that is pressed onto the yoke and will make it look like brand new

Like the ones for harmonic dampers on engines, right? I didn't know they were offered for slip yokes.

Exactly, I used them years ago, when I was working in the industry
