For those of us running non-PCM-controlled transmissions, adjusting shift
points means finding the correct combination of weights and springs.
I'm interested in seeing what everyone else ended up using.
Hopefully we'll have enough results to make this a useful thread to find in a search.
I adjusted mine about 3 years ago using a TCI kit in my 4L60
This consisted of 6 weights, numbered 1-6 (heaviest to lightest)
and 6 springs; purple, red, orange, yellow, green, blue and black (weakest to strongest)
I got it to complete shifts at 6375 using weights 4 and 5 with stock springs.
I achieved the same results with 3 different motor combinations in 2 different cars. (all 93 Lt1 Fbodies)
Recently, I tried using weights 5 and 6 with stock springs.
The result was a 7000+ shift (hit the ECM's RPM limit)
I also tried swapping in slightly firmer springs. (green and blue)
This resulted in much mushier shifts, but did not change RPM.

Here is some info for you:
B&M governor calibration kit for WOT.....THIS IS JUST AN APPROXIMATION!!
GM#24202127 = 4400 rpm
Blue&Yellow 2 & 3 = 4900 rpm
GM#24202117 = 5000 rpm
Blue & Yellow 4 & 3 = 5100 rpm
GM#24202122 = 5200 rpm
Blue & Yellow 2 & 5 = 5300 rpm
Blue & Yellow 5 & 3 = 5500 rpm
Blue & Green 4 & 5 = 5600 rpm
Blue & Green 3 & 5 = 5600 to 5700 rpm
The GM Part numbers is for the actual governor.
These will vary with the stall.....higher the stall of your torque converter...the higher they will want to shift.

Let me add some stuff also from personal experimentation:
We won't even talk about where the "part throttle" shifts occur.
Springs comparison tension from heaviest to lightest:
Heavy> purple, white(stock), blue, green, yellow, rust(stock), orange, red <light
Weights, weighed in grams from fulcrum, heaviest to lightest:
#1- 8.4g, #2- 5.7g, #stock- 4.5g, #3- 4.3g, #4- 4.0g, #5- 3.0g, #6- 2.0g
Stock setup:
White & Rust, #stock & #stock= WOT 1-2 5200 2-3 5000
Modified setup:
Red & Orange, #5 & stock = WOT 1-2 >6700 2-3 5500
Orange & Rust, #5 & #4 = WOT 1-2 >6700 2-3 5700
Orange & Yellow, #6 & #4 = WOT 1-2 >6700 2-3 5800
The "famous" corvette governor:
WOT 1-2 3600 2-3 3400 (you can really win with that!)
You just can't move up the 2-3 shift much without running the 1-2 shift into the stratosphere.

This from a 2005 Post
Guess I got lucky with my th-400 and B&M kit.
I wanted 1-2 shift point at 6000-6200 rpm and 2-3 shift at 5300-5600 rpm
1st weight/springs I put in, got me there.
1-2 at 6100 rpm, 2-3 at 5400 rpm
I used weights # 3 and 6 with yellow and orange springs, from the B&M kit

im also interested in the part throttle shift point results too????
i currently run 1 stock weight and the number 5 weight with the stiffer springs and part throttle is around 3000 rpms but wot suffers at 4400 or so i want the 3k part throttle but need a 6500k wot shift
can only acheive that if i manually shift the trans

I put my weights on a scale today just to compare them to the numbers above.
(scale was accurate to 1g, no decimals)
Stock weight 1 - 9g
Stock weight 2 - 10g
TCI Weight 1 - 15g
TCI Weight 2 - 12g
TCI Weight 3 - 10g
TCI Weight 4 - ? (unknown, it's in the car)
TCI Weight 5 - ? (unknown, it's in the car)
TCI Weight 6 - 5g
I'll have to swing by the post office tomorrow and abuse their crack-dealer-accurate scales

Re: Share your 700R4 / TH400 / TH350 / 4L60 Governor Kit Results
Hey James,
I am working on my truck with a 402 BB and a TH400.
My problem is the opposite of most, I want LOWER shift points. At WOT, the trans will not shift out of 1st especially with the kick down switch on. RPM goes above 5000, and that's high enough for a truck. I disconnected the kickdown switch, and got it to shift about 4500-5000, but it won't downshift from 3rd. If it is manually in 2nd, it will go to 1st. I got a new Sonnax governor, and now it's worse!! With kickdown disconnected, no shift at a little above 5000.
This trans has always shifted strange, it will go 1-3, hardly ever hitting 2nd gear, is that governor related, too? I've read that springs will control the shift spacing, while weights will control shift points.
Do you know if a kit includes weights and springs to LOWER shift points?
Thanks for any help
Bob
