It clunks when I slow down.

Okay,
So when I slow down from driving about 35-40 mph, I hear alot of clunking noise coming from what seems like the rearend. It sounds to far back to be anything from the tranny. Anyone have any thought on what it might be instead. Tranny shifts good and well. Shifts fine if I just leave it in park or if I shift it from 1-2-3-D. I'm running a 700R4 btw. Thanks

I'd eliminate the trans mount first (and do a visual inspection of the underside of the car), then go from there if necessary.

Could be a worn U-joint. A worn U-joint can "clunk" when the transmission down-shifts when you are slowing down.

My guess would be a u joint as well. IIRC a broken tranny mount will "clunk" as soon as you floor it, not when you decellerate.

Re: It clunks when I slow down.

The 700R4 has a common 3-2 downshift clunk, but this does not sound like it is going from 3rd to 2nd yet at that high of a speed. Check the above mentioned possible problems.
