Today I got my car back from having a rebuilt trans put in. I had a B&M shift kit put in it and a 2000 stall. It may be something in the trans but now the car feels sluggish it feels like it has less power and the throttle response feels slower than before. Would this be the stall? If so i think i'll have it taken out because the car doesnt feel nearly as sharp. Any advice?
Could there be something wrong with the stall? If not i guess its the trans, its been in the shop for a few weeks already. The shop that built the trans did a crappy job and even managed to leave parts out, there was trash in it that stopped up my trans cooler and caused the governor to stick. After a few weeks of messing around with the shop that built it the mechanic actually had to pay someone else out of his pocket to rebuild it and install another shift kit.
It would be helpfull if you could find your cam specs. It is important to make sure to match the converter with it. A 2000 stall converter shouldnt be too big, IIRC I think the stock was around 1,600 to 1,800.
From what I've been told the B&M shift kits are junk. If its anything like the transgo kits the tranny guy may have screwed up the valve body when hogging out some of the passage ways. I would wait for Dana from ProBuilt to chime in, or maybe give him a call to try and help diagnose your situation.
well your 2.73 gears are terrible for quick launches.. upgrade to 3.27-3.45 gears and you will be much happier.... those are highway gears..... i have a 2200 stall and a B&M shift in my pro built 700r4 and it definitely doesnt feel sluggish at all...i had the transgo kit in my other tranny and it is a good one but i like the way my B&M shifts better than the transgo.. i dont know why people say the B&M is bad.... B&M is a very popular manufacture and sells parts for all out racing... i would think they wouldnt sell junk...
I'm having other problems with it now it short shifts just normally driving then when i try to stomp it the shift points are way off and right after i do and try driving it normal again it tries to shift way to late. I know the cables not adjusted right but i'm starting to think theres still trash in the transmission.
Adjust the tv cable NOW, then go drive it again to see if it's the same. Higher stall converter will not be snappy like a stock tight converter. Whole purpose is to let the engine get to a higher RPM quicker where there is more torque to blast you off. Below that 2000 rpm, it'll be slipping and feel lazy. I went from a stock converter to a 2500 stall and it felt really strange at first.
