I have a few questions about my t56 swap. I have an 85 camaro and was wondering how do I swap for a mechanical speed-o on it???? Also I am going to need a stock torque arm mount for it and was wondering if the t56 one is the same as a t5 or 700r4 mount??? Thanks
Mount is the same, i have no idea what to do about the mechanical problem. Think i am going to get a aftermarket speedo gauge and tach and mount them in the stock cluster.
If you have a 90+ Camaro or an 87+ Firebird you already have an electronically driven speedometer. If not, the transmission's electronic signal has to get converted to a mechanical shaft drive, or the speedometer must be changed to an electrical unit. JTR (Jag's That Run) has a conversion kit available to change the electrical T56 output to a mechanical cable, but unfortunately, it is around $300. Abbot makes a black box that drives a cable speedometer as well, for a few hundred. Auto Meter has an electronically driven speedometer that accept's the VSS signal. I'm using this, along with a few others very succesfully.

How does everyone run there speedo then. Im looking for options on how to hook it up as I'd like to start the swap soon and waht to have all the parts ready to go
You either get a converter box (Cable-X, Dakota), Run an aftermarket electronic speedo, or send off the tailhousing and have it modified to accept a mechanical VSS.

So ALLOY is the guy who does them and how does it work, I just send mine off to him and he sends me another in return or he mods the one I got and sends it back.
Hey, I'm doing the same swap on my 1986 Trans Am, I have a T56 from a 95 Trans am. heres the best price i've found so far for a cross member to work with the T56 on your car. http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/ca...93-97t-56.aspx
