700r4 to T5 Swap - New Starter?

Anyone know if the stock starter used with 700r4 will work with a T5?

I notice most of the parts places differentiate between manual and auto trans and have a different part number for the starter for each, but that does not always mean anything.

Both the flywheel & flexplate have 153 teeth and the same OD. I was able to get the starter in place, but it was a much tighter fit on the T5 and you can not visually check the allignment with the starter in place.

Couldn't find anything in the stickies or through search and wanted to get some input before I drop the engine in and find out I have to pull the starter back off, so any help woiuld be greatly appreciated!

Re: 700r4 to T5 Swap - New Starter?

If I recall from my old parts guy days, 87 and after 700r4's and t-5's shared the same starter but I could be mistaken. I know 86 and earlier are different but I could swear the newer ones were the same.

When I did my swap I kept my auto starter its a 89 lb9 but I assume it should be the same.

Thank you both for the update. Will leave the Auto starter on there and cross my fingers.

Thanks again!
