However, stall choice is usually associated with power band of the cam. As I understand it, you want a stall speed close to the starting rpm range of your cam, so for example if your cam is designed to provide a power band of 2500 rpms to 6000 rpms, then you'd want a stall close to 2500rpms. That is for performance, not a necessity.
I had my tranny rebuilt with all the goodies whe I swapped in my 350 - I have no specifics on my cam since I bought the motor complete and used, but I did install a converter from a S-10 which was supposed to give me a higher stall speed (2100?) than the stock stall (1300?) of my original 700R4/305TBI setup.
Also, stall speeds are a guesstimate at best - it all depends on the torque of the motor in front of it, along with other factors too technical for me. So the advertised stall speeds you see are just to give something for comparison basically.
