rear end swap

hi guys!
I have a camaro rs 91 with a 10 bolts posi differential that as drum brakes. I bought a 10 bolts rear end that as disc brakes and a lock from a 88 camaro iroc. Sould I swap the posi from my diff to the other to replace the lock or this isn't something good. I think that my axles are 28 splines and the other is a 26 so will it fit? Also the 88 diff is stock, so what type of gear ratio do you think could be in it?

Thanks alot everyone!!!

Re: rear end swap

i personally wouldn't because drums are good enough for me, keep the wheels cleaner too. but the gears are pretty much the same it sounds like. you said the 88 has a locker? that wouldn't be so wise on the street but a posi can get you in trouble too as i found out in the rain today.

What do you mean by "lock"?

Re: rear end swap

I think that the real name is Gov-lock, it's not a posi, it only locks the two wheels at the same time. Maybe i'm wrong?

thanks!

Re: rear end swap

Why are you wanting to swap this rear end? Is it for the brakes? If it is then just swap the brakes onto the rear end that you already have. You are swapping a stronger rear end for a weaker one.

Re: rear end swap

ya that is probably what i'm going to do. One reason for the swap was that the other rear was 3.42 and mine is 2.73, but i think i'm going to buy new ring and pinion for my 91 rear instead. Thanks for the reply!

You realize that you have to setup new gears, right? You can't just bolt them in and go. It's not for the inexperienced. At least not unless you're really determined.
