I need some help regarding rebuild kit for my Firebird GTA 1988, 5.7l. I want to buy complete kit from SummitRacing. Right now, engine is complete stock, but I want to increase power in future for about 100-150HP. Your transmission assuming its original has the 30 spline. As far as if that kits ok for stock I would say sure however once you mention adding 100-150 hp to the stock rating ide say i would consider getting a kit to make your trans able to deal with no less than 450 hp considering even though you only want like 400 hp worst case scenario there should always be a little safety factor in there. Unfortunately there's a bit more to these transmissions that needs to be replaced beyond a stock rebuild to get them to withstand 450 hp. On the bright side though the 87-93 700r4s were the best revision so your starting out with something good to work with though. Again assuming its original and hasn't been replaced with an earlier 700r4.

100-150HP plus would be about 350HP (that's ok with me,I don't need more power), because of stock engine has 230HP. It's original 700R4 in my car.

True I just figure from your transmissions point of view the worst case scnario would be if you added 150 over stock putting you at 380 (which i rounded to 400 again worst case scenario if you were to overshoot your goal wouldn't want to underestimate here always overestimate) from there I added a a little safety factor as even for a 350 hp motor you wouldn't want a trans with a limit for 350hp. Thats how i approached my 450 hp rating. If you were looking to produce a motor 350 hp worst case scenario ide still look to build a trans thats capable of no less than 400 hp. Now more importantly how is this achieved. First I would ask are you doing the work or are you have the trans done at a shop? If your having it done at a shop they dont usually like you buying parts and in many cases wont warranty it if you provide them. Being that these are fairly complicated transmissions they are easy to mess up in rebuilding if not done properly especially when its for a high performance build so that warranty is a good thing to have. Next its hard to say what would be the best route for you if you were going to build the trans. Reason being again its not just the usual stuff thats replaced in a rebuild that has to be replaced to make it capeable of higher hp rating alot of what they call "hard parts" that are not found in rebuilt kits must be replaced as well such as the famed sun shell which is prone to cracking/shearing at the splines even in very tame builds. My recomendation is i would get the date code off the trans. This is important because the car is an 88 modle year it was probably built in 87 for sale in 88 which means it could have an 88 or an 87 build year transmission and the 87 year 700r4s is kinda funny as some changes were made mid year which you would need to be able to tell them about when ordering parts. Next I would check out what places like probuilt automatics or PACT have to offer as they both seem to sell good stuff for building up a high hp 700r4 and can provide you with the part numbers of kits they recommend for what you want as well as tools and documentation needed to preform the work. Although if you are doing the trans yourself and this is your first transmission or even your first 700r4 there are some precautions you should know about before diving in though. I would not shy away from taking on the project just need to know what your getting yourself into first as this is one of the more complicated transmissions unlike your run of the mill th-350 (not that there simple just simpler). Again not to dissuade you from doing it just need to know what your getting into first.

Wonderful site for anything you need for transmission rebuilds if you are looking to beef it up. They offer two different packages for the 700R4, one rated for over 400hp and then one rated for over 700hp I think. The smaller one is 525 and all the powerblock shows use Monster, so the videos to do it yourself are out there. Great kits, I used one on a 350 and I am about to get one for my 700R4.
