I was driving home and pushed the clutch in @ a intersection, heard a little pop from somewhere near the firewall and now the clutch pedal just dangles on its hinge with no pressure what so ever. I looked for leaks & see nothing, the clutch master cylinder is full. the clutch is 2 years old and a beefy aftermarket one. I pulled the cover off from around the pedals and don't see anything unusual although I don't know what I should be looking for anyway. Any Idears???
Sounds like what happened with me as well, but no one has responded to me yet. There is a small bushing that holds the clutch pedal arm to the master cylinder push rod. If that bushing breaks, the push rod can slip off the clutch pedal arm, thus making the clutch inoperable. I need to figure out the name of the exact part...
I've had ZIP ties holding my clutch rod to the pedal for about 8 years now. If your not noticing a loss of fluid - checking that rod is a good place start. If the rod is intact and still no fluid loss - the problem could possibly a blown internal seal in the hydraulic system.
If it was the plastic bushing that broke you can get a new one from GM. The busing has 3 small catches on it and they break and the rod falls off. If you look on the pin the rod goes on it has a groove in it for a snap ring.
I didn't want my bushing to break again and have to drive another 7 miles in first gear, so I bought a new bushing and snap ring from GM. I discovered you can't use the bushing with the snap ring unless you break the little catches off. I felt that a snap ring would be safer than the little plastic catches, so I cut the catches off and slipped it on and used the snap ring. That was years ago and it's still working great.
I'll take a look but I think I have a spare bushing and ring. If I do I'll take a pic and post it for you.
