9 bolt axle vs 10 bolt axle (spline)

Are they the same? I searched and can't find info on 9 bolt axle spline's. I got a 9 bolt in my 88 iroc z. I got a 2001 10 bolt given to me out of a SS. I'm about to buy a 89 10 bolt open diff axle. (3rd gen)

Ok my question.

I know 10 bolt LS1 parts minus axle's will swap into 10 bolt 3rd gen. I know I need 28 spline axle's are my 9 bolt axle's 28 spline and will they swap into a 89 10 bolt?

Why don't you keep the LS1 rear end and install it? It's probably in better shape..

I don't want my wheels to stick out. Isn't the LS1 rear like the LT1 that it's 2 inches longer? I want 3rd gen stock axle length

Yes, forthgen rears are wider. Your 9-bolt has 28-spline axles. IIRC, nothing internal from the 9-bolt will swap to a 10-bolt. For example, the 9-bolt has different axle lengths from side to side.

Well I may but I was reading on here that just a small number of late model 89 axle's where 28 spline (it's open diff). So I will need to see what I have and that's why I asked encase the 10 bolt I can get is 26 spline axle's.
