on my 91 rs i used the anchor mounts I think I get about 2 weeks of driving before there ripped in 2 and the trans banging on the tunnel lol
after replaceing the 5 dollar mount 4 times i just go the es one but yes it vibrates at 50 with the preload plate and at 60 with out it
sadly the vibrations don't go away till 75-80 and then a different vibration starts up lol
my 89 iroc had zero vibrations till i installed a es poly trans mount the car feels like its bounceing i took out the preload plate and it settled down

Wow... Found a guy on Ebay selling all sorts of GM Genuine parts... He stated part is discontinued...

I just stopped by the shop today, getting rear end / clutch and stuff put in and the ES mount does have the plate installed... so I will test later and see... It is a few years old... also getting Spohn cross member mounted torque arm installed...
We'll see how it rolls... I'm starting to like the $4 ones now

As ES now offers 2 different heights for the fourth gens, and as I still haven't found a nice used 1-piece trans crossmember, I ordered the short version. At present I have it installed with the preload plate and with 3 washers as a 1/4" spacer, but can't comment on vibration as mine isn't driving yet. However, the angle of the trans output shaft needs to match the angle of the pinion shaft.
The fact of the torque arm necessitates the interlocking feature inside the ES. Anything else will be ripped apart.

I've taken the Energy Suspension 3.1142 transmission mount on my car to 80km/hour with no shaking. That's about 50miles per hour. I need to get on a faster highway and I'll report back. Gotta fix something on the car first (seems like I'm always fixing something on the car.)

I have poly engine mounts and ES tranny mount with plate (and all sorts of other drive train upgrades, and not vibrating... I am gonna remove the plate when I got some tranny work done in a few weeks... Some people have problems, others don't...

The above seems to be the bottom line. I run ES poly motor mounts with no issue. It's only when I add the poly trans mount that heavy vibration occurs. After trying several types/heights, I finally accepted the fact that OE rubber was the only satisfactory end for me personally.

I'm not getting a vibration issue at speed. I'm getting it when I shift out of gear at speed. I'm waiting for winter to be over and try to figure out if my drive line angles are right.

just an update I removed the preload plate and sanded off the 2 poly bumps and no more issues car is smooth till 100 so happy now
I had attempted to re try an stock rubber mount and with just some normal driving it ripped in 2 pieces
i said will what if i use a razor blade and scrape off the 2 poly bumps on the top i figured worst case i just have to buy another mount
and wow all vibrations gone its smooth till over 100 so that has been my issue forever
i also did the same mod to my irocs and its smooth again aswell so the issue really is its too tall i don't understand the need for the preload plate the factory mount dosnt need one and the es mounts steel is still thicker then the stock ones steel

Its all got to do with driveline angles. The height of the various mounts change the drive line angle. I guess the stock rubber ones do absorb the vibration but your drive line angle could still be out of line. If you don't have the right angles because of the plates being wrong or aftermarket motor mounts or whatever...you haven't fixed the problem. Having an adjustable torque arm helps to adjust the pinion angle. Otherwise, like in that article you are stuck shimming transmission mounts or whatever to get the right angle.

I'm wondering about the drive line angles and age/wear of the U-joints.
Say you drive your car for so many miles and have the U-joints worn in a certain way. Then you change the drive line angle with a taller or shorter mount.
That could change the way or distance that U-joint bearing works causing a little vibration.
Which could also be the difference in why some cars get more of a vibration than others.

A couple things...
While looking for NOS / OE mounts... I ran across some with the part Number for our cars... Why didn't I buy it?
2 Reasons...
$90+...
And the bag said it was from 2001... Not buying 14 year old rubber for $90...
But in the add, It stated compatible with Sierra / Silverado 99 to 07 trucks...
I emailed another vender of NEW GM MOUNTS for those trucks to see... Prices were like $25...
After seeing "online" the Anchor, DEA & Westar ones that everyone rips in half in short order, I went to checkout NAPA and with a few of those brands, they had their own BallKamp brand... and it looked to be built different than the cheaper ones...
I ordered a DEA and Anchor one from Rock auto, uh, less than $6 FOR BOTH... I do not have them in hand yet... but from reviews / online pics, they do look different than the NAPA one... I picked it up today... $13.50...
Came in a box, sealed up in a plastic bag, with a silica bag inside, so it's FRESH.
Feels strong and not hollow like the cheaper ones (or so I'm told).... It maybe a few weeks til I get it in, I got other projects to do before it, but I will report back if no one else gets one by then... it does look promising....
Oh, and the best warranty of the bunch.... 3 year, 36,000 miles.....the others were 6 months to a year... even the GM ones (that are who knows how many years old) had a 1 year...

Though he could not connect it via my VIN...
Here are some pics... It mostly looks the same... there are no cut out on the ends of the metal bracket, this one looks like a solid U.

Nice one. I went with ES . I went with durability more then noise i do have a lot of noise since the plate was installed with it. I will remove it and itll be less noise

I think it has to do with a few things... the vibrations.. What causes them? An unbalanced drive shaft? Unbalanced engine? flex-plate/damper, ect. Curious to see if on a car that is experiencing symptoms, to pull the shaft and have it spun to make sure its true, dead on true. Install and see if its better. Work down the list of spinning things that could use balancing and see if that does anything. my guess is it would. What else could it be. Bumpy road? Were not talking about a bumpy road... Its vibrations... right?... I have energy all around and I know everything on my car is balanced. I have no vibrations. Not saying this is the answer to our problems but, It defiantly could be. So, who has a vibrating car and wants to go down the list...?? (I bet a lot is drive shaft and u-joints)

I got a new balanced Coleman Racing 3" Aluminum DS with new U Joints, Spohn & Alston SFC's, Bilsteins, Moog Stock Height Springs, Spohn crossmember mounted TQ Arm, Astro A5 Trans, etc... New Southbay Injectors, smooth engine but a bit noisy, and poly engine mounts... all good... I still think the rubber, over all, will be quieter than the poly....
I got a new balanced Coleman Racing 3" Aluminum DS with new U Joints, Spohn & Alston SFC's, Bilsteins, Moog Stock Height Springs, Spohn crossmember mounted TQ Arm, Astro A5 Trans, etc... New Southbay Injectors, smooth engine but a bit noisy, and poly engine mounts... all good... I still think the rubber, over all, will be quieter than the poly....

I could not find any side pics of it to see if it's built the same as the Anchor / Dea ones....
I do see that it the metal base has that U shape, instead of the L shape all the ones I've shown have... not sure if structurally, that would interfere with something... it has the same shape the Ebay I last posted about does too...
I just don't remember off hand if that would interfere with anything....

I see what you mean.
I've found that its where the rubber meats the metal that tears with the Anchor Mounts.
It would be nice if someone could fab up a rubber mount that would actually last for someone that likes to push it every once and a while.
I'm not lazy so its not so much changing them, its that initial " BANG" you get when they go that bothers me.

The Napa / Ballkamp one looks promising... I just ordered some new strut mounts, both AC Delco... one made in China, the other in Taiwan and the Taiwan bearing is crap... not to mention different colored hardware... so I'm sending it back and gathering more parts to do at once (strut mounts, trans mount, etc...) Update in a few weeks...

Well, after reading through all of this, I'm VERY hesitant to put the ES mount I have coming from Summit in....
I'm also getting new U-joints and a new torque are bushing but have otherwise stock parts with the car lowered 1.5" all around. Should I just go rubber for a summer DD car that see's 70mph for 20 miles one way to work?

(edit) I agree, rubber will be more quiet. Its much softer of a material.

That's pretty much my daily routine. And yes, go with the rubber. I couldn't stand the shaking windows at 50 mph or the rattling chain sound of the poly mount when accelerating past 3500 RPM.

Maybe for now I'll just do my torque arm bushing and new U-joints and hold off on the trans mount until I can get an adjustable torque arm...
I've got weird vibration at low RPM's after the install of my new transmission. (Pro-built road race kit, 2800 stall vigilante converter). When the RPM's drop low, where my old trans would lug, this one just kind of vibrates.....it's weird and something I'm trying to solve. Hence all the new bushings...
Runs fine at highway speeds though.

3.1142 was designed specifically for 87-02 Camaros in order to reduce driveline and stick vibration in the shifter. It is a slightly different durometer than the 3.1108 while being the same physical dimensions.
3.1158 is essentially a 3.1108 with 7/16” material removed. This is mainly used for custom applications that require a shorter trans mount than the factory piece. This would effectively lower the transmission over a stock component.

I have read this thread from start to finish..and was in need of a new trans mount. As much as I wanted an OEM-style rubber one,I ended up with purchasing and installing a ES.31142. Once I get my car on open roads, I will tally my results and post them here. I finally split the original OEM mount and I can tell those of you who havent experienced the sound it makes when stepping on the gas and KABOOM! It sounds like someone is slamming under your center console with a bowling ball...Totally a undesirable sound.. The new trans mount has obviously fixed that,but I didnt get on it to see if vibrations occur. I only went about 40mph on way home from shop, and was good and calm,so far...Thanks for members replies to my PM's.

OK..so I installed the ES trans mount and I have vibrations that start around 70+....I'm going to try removing the added plate first, then am going to try the Napa DTM mount if this doesnt remedy..I will come back with results.

yesterday I had my car on a lift and noticed my poly trans mount is broken I had been noticing a bang when id get on it from a stand still not the same noise as a busted rubber one where the trans is hitting the tunnel but a clang the internal steel parts are hitting together and its letting the trans raise up about 3-4 inchs the noise was my exhaust hitting the floor board from the mount flex

Well..Not much of an update for you, but here goes..I removed the plate from the ES poly trans mount..was able to hit about 80mph on a busy road right after and it "felt" improved, ie. less vibrations..I have an all camaro car show this weekend and will be able to open it up a bit..I will see if that took care of vibrations...If not, my next install is the Napa DTM rubber mount..I will post with any updates ASAP....

Well...short update...was able to open it up a bit more after removing the adapter plate from the ES mount..Still has hi-speed vibrations,albeit not as harsh....Am in the process of gathering parts for next round at shop...one of the jobs is to pull the ES mount and try the DTM rubber mount from Napa auto...Will post afterwards...am also replacing front struts,not because they are faulty, just using better(Bilsteins,in my case).....

Drag racers have discovered the hard way that they can get away with 4 degrees of pinion down for moderate street driving, they do it to account for axle wrap on launch, but with our torque arms, we have none. Pinion-down is for leaf springs, not multi-link.

I love the ES interlock, I love how their polygraphite looks like rubber and doesn't ever squeak, but ES doesn't cover a lot of applications that Prothane does, like when I had to redo the front suspension of my '85 300ZX I once had.

so i got the prothane mount as a replacement that was the biggest mistake ever its poly is insanely stiff and caused such a bad vibration that it would visibly vibrate the dash these where rpm based vibrations
i almost then picked up the new version of the es one super soft poly and vibration is minimal and i lost the drivetrain shake so they must have corrected most of the issues at this point for them
there are 2 different vibrations caused by different mounts one is the older es mount it raised the trans causing drivetrain shake at higher speeds ie 55+
almost has a out of balance tire feel sometimes made my car feel like an axle was bent it also had some rpm vibrations
prothane mount cause such bad rpm vibrations my dash would vibrate so bad i took it out within a day
yes i avoid the stock rubber ones as they rip in 2 within 2 weeks these replacements have been having this issue for years i wouldn't even call them stock replacements . stock ones from the factory would last years a trans mount twice a month is not something i feel should need done I'm not sure why they constaintly rip but i am a bit hard on my cars

OK here's a bit of an update..If you were reading along, I have replaced trans mount from the original rubber,to ES mount..then I had hi speed vibrations..removed plate from ES, still had vibrations...Used Napa DTM mount, and I believe the vibration to be gone...I wasnt able to blast up to 80/90, but was able to hit 65 in the area I was in..I couldnt feel the vibration starting,like I used to...We also rotated drive shaft at same time,not saying this was the cure or cause,but thought it couldnt hurt.....So, in conclusion, I'm gonna stay with the rubber,as long as I dont snap it in 2 anytime too quickly.....

The NAPA one is a far cry form the other cheap alternatives...It's stout, still rubber and pretty much the only "stock"ish rubber trans mount worth anything. I've seen people report those cheap ones breaking after 1 burn out... Mine is still going strong after a year and keep us updated on yours.... Glad I was able to track down the Napa option
